Upcoming Titles I Can’t Wait To Play

Star Trek - Looks like Kirk forgot to close the microwave door

Being an avid gamer I’m always making mental notes of games to look at when they’re released.  This is far from comprehensive, but its a list of games that are at the front of my mind.  Not all of them have definite release dates, but I’m still interested in them none the less.

Mass Effect 3 - Mordin and Sheppard

Mass Effect 3 - Mordin and Sheppard

Mass Effect 3 – Of course this game would have to be on my list.  After stumbling upon Mass Effect the original almost accidentally by purchasing it during a sale, I quickly became engrossed in the story.  Mass Effect 2 managed to out due it’s predecessor which is unique for sequels of any medium.  So of course all fans of Mass Effect will be expecting big things coming from the 3rd part of the trilogy.  Set to Release on March 6th, 2012 Mass Effect 3, from what we can tell, tells the final chapter in the galaxies fight against the Reapers.  The games trailer which has played on TV numerous times now depicts Commander Sheppard attempting to repel a full blown reaper invasion of earth, a new trailer shows more gameplay details(here).  The plot seems to revolve around Sheppard mustering an army made of all of the galaxies races to fight against the Reaper threat in a final showdown.  New to the Mass Effect series is online co-operative play, which I can’t wait to try out.

Star Trek – Announced right before E3 in June 2011, the latest Star Trek game is set to take place in the rebooted Star Trek universe of the 2009 movie.  Characters in the game such as Spock and Kirk carry the likeness of Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine respectively.   Gameplay is shown in an E3 trailer (here) which shows scenes of Kirk and Spock running and shooting in what would appear to be a Mass Effect inspired environment.  Coincidentally Paramount has announced on Jan 14th, 2012 a sequel to the 2009 movie.  It has a screen date of May 17th, 2013.  Can’t wait for that either

MechWarrior Online - Coast Battle

MechWarrior Online - Coast Battle

MechWarrior Online – Originally a reboot of the MechWarrior series with planned single player campaign and specifics layed out, the game was cancelled due to other commitments by Piranha Games inc.  In 2009 a teaser trailer was released which was a CGI imagination of the games proposed gameplay (here) and setting.  In the Spring of 2010 MechWarrior was put on the backseat by Piranha much to the dismay of fans.  But in the Winter Months of 2011 Piranha set about re-imagining a successful MechWarrior title and came up with an online multiplayer version of the title.  Players will have to choose classes and work together to defeat the enemy.  With the game currently in Beta and a growing community I look forward to the release of this game and will be definitely trying it out.

Dust 514

Dust 514

Dust 514 – This games release date isn’t even on the radar yet, and isn’t likely to be extremely well known at this point.  Dust 514 is a PS3 exclusive which will be tied directly to CCPs Eve-Online.  In Eve-Online players, among other things, vie for control of areas on planets to exploit their resources.  If a player wants to take control of another players territory on a planet, they hire mercenary soldiers.  This is where players of Dust 514 fit in.  Dust 514 is an FPS game in which players join mercenary corporations which are in turn hired by players or corporations in Eve-Online to fight other Mercenary corporations for control of regions on planets.  The E3 trailer (here) shows a mix of Dust 514 game play and Eve-Online game play and shows how the whole galaxy kinda of ties together by zooming out to the Eve-Online jump route map and then zooming directly in to Dust 514′s FPS view.  This game has some very cool potential and is another one I cannot wait to play.  Sadly I probably won’t get the chance since its a PS3 exclusive, but I will probably pop back into Eve-Online just to see how the whole thing ties together.
